Riverwoods Police Officer, 2 Others Injured In Route 43 Crash

3 people were taken to Condell Medical Center after a Friday morning crash in Mundelein.

MUNDELEIN, IL — An on-duty Riverwoods police officer was injured in a traffic crash in Mundelein Friday morning. Shortly before 7 a.m., a man driving south on Route 83 tried to turn left on Route 60 at a yellow light, where he collided with the officer's northbound Chevrolet patrol SUV, the Daily Herald reported. Police said the Riverwoods officer, a woman, who was a passenger in his vehicle at the time, and the other driver were all taken to the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life threatening injuries.

Riverwoods Chief of Police Bruce Dayno said the officer, a 35-year-old who has been with the department for three years, suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital by around 10 a.m. He said the officer was giving the woman a ride home at the time of the collision.

The crash remains under investigation, and no citations were immediately issued, according to the Daily Herald.

Mundelein police told the paper it has not been determined how fast the the two vehicles involved were travelling at the time of the crash, and the officer was on-duty but was not responding to a call with lights and sirens.
