St. Patrick’s Day Traffic Safety Campaign Underway In Lake County
In addition to looking for alcohol- and cannabis-impaired drivers, police will be cracking down on seat belt enforcement.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, seat belt usage is at its lowest at night. While cracking down on alcohol- and cannabis-impaired drivers is the main focus of its current St. Patrick's Day Traffic Safety Campaign, local police will also be strictly enforcing seat belt use, speeding, distracted driving and all traffic laws.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Illinois State Police and Illinois Department of Transportation for the traffic safety campaign.
"Whether you’re attending a party, hosting friends, or going out to a tavern, keep safety at the forefront of your day and night," LCSO said in a news release. "When it’s time to leave, make sure your designated driver is sober. Remember that walking impaired can also be dangerous, so designate a sober friend to walk home with you. Designated drivers: Be alert for impaired walkers who may not obey street signs."
