Takeda Pharmaceuticals Relocates Some Of Its 1,700 Employees In Deerfield
Despite layoffs and relocations, Takeda remains committed to Deerfield as U.S. headquarters.

DEERFIELD, IL — The Japanese pharmaceutical giant Takeda is reorganizing its North American operations, but a spokesperson told the Deerfield Review the company has no plans to relocate its U.S. headquarters from Deerfield. Takeda's Jim Schwartz said only nine of the 480 people who were recently laid off at the company were based in Illinois. The company is moving executives from its vaccine as well as its research and development units to other U.S. locations, mostly to Boston and San Diego.
But despite the layoffs, Executive Director of the Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods Chamber of CommerceVictoria Street told the paper she is not concerned about the company leaving. It maintains a member of the Chamber and has a seat on its board of directors, she said.
And Deerfield's assistant village manager, Andrew Lichterman said the village is glad to hear Takeda has reaffirmed its commitment to the community. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest news for Deerfield — or your community. And iPhone users: Check out Patch's new app.)
