Temple Jeremiah welcomes Peggy Salazar, Executive Director of Chicago's Southeast Environmental Task Force, on Oct. 5, 2014

Temple Jeremiah, a Reform synagogue in Northfield, welcomes Salazar to speak about environmental issues

In furtherance of its active participation in the GreenFaith Certification Program, which is part of the nation’s first interfaith environmental certification process for houses of worship, Temple Jeremiah welcomes Peggy Salazar, Executive Director of Chicago’s Southeast Environmental Task Force, to speak at its Oct. 5 Adult Learning event at 9:30 a.m.

The Southeast side of Chicago has a legacy of heavy industry and has long been the dumping ground for industrial and sanitation waste. Yet, amid the unsightly piles and abandoned industrial sites, this part of the city is also home to unique biodiversity, including wetlands and prairies. Salazar, a lifelong resident of the Southeast side, will be discussing the environmental challenges faced by residents of this oft-forgotten part of Chicago, as well as the opportunities to expand the areas of natural beauty that exist.

The GreenFaith program is designed to help churches, synagogues, mosques and temples earn recognition as environmental leaders by carrying out over two dozen environmental activities over two years. Temple Jeremiah is proud to continue its involvement in the program and to raise environmental awareness in the community.

Temple Jeremiah is a Reform Jewish congregational family whose mission is to foster and invigorate a love for worship, study of Torah, and acts of Tikkun Olam in a caring community that embraces diversity in its membership. It is dedicated to lifelong Jewish education, tzedakah, and social justice.
