Two Valedictorians in Two Years Both Began at Holy Cross School in Deerfield
After attending Holy Cross School, Kate Lederer went on to Loyola Academy and graduated as the 2015 valedictorian. Lederer credits her time at Holy Cross for instilling love of learning and giving her the necessary tools to succeed in the academic world. She values Catholic education because she said it taught her the importance of community, faith and respect. Lederer is a freshman at the University of Notre Dame where she is majoring in marketing and political science.
Margaret Ackerson was on of three 2013 valedictorians from Deerfield High School. Currently, Ackerson is a Civil Engineering major at Santa Clara University in California. She is a recipient of the prestigious Johnson Scholars Program which is awarded to students who demonstrate the highest levels of academic ability, motivation and leadership potential.

Ackerson describes Holy Cross as a place where morals back the classroom rules, thanks are given for each meal and the ultimate practice of loving one another underlies every lesson. Additionally, she said that Holy Cross taught her to live her faith daily in all situations. Ackerson appreciated that her faith was not confined to Sundays while attending the grade school and said the concept continues to influence the way she lives today.
