Veterans Day 2018 Observed In Deerfield
The 100th anniversary of the end of World War I is Sunday, see what's open and closed Monday.

DEERFIELD, IL — The 100th anniversary of the "War to End All Wars" is Sunday. It has been a national holiday since Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Originally known as Armistice Day Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance in 1926. President Eisenhower in 1954 renamed it Veterans Day after World War II. This year it falls on Sunday, Nov. 11.
In Deerfield, a memorial service is set for Sunday at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Jewett Park and Park Avenue with Deerfield American Legion Post 738 and Mayor Harriet Rosenthal.
A Give Where You Live volunteer service event originally scheduled has been canceled. Previously, the event welcomed children who were off school for the day, but changes in school holiday schedules conflict this year, according to the village. Donations will be retained for a Martin Luther King Jr. day of service on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019.
