Village Of Deerfield Recognized By U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

The Village of Deerfield is proud to announce its commitment to environmental sustainability through its participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Green Power Partnership (GPP). Established in 2001, the GPP aims to encourage organizations to voluntarily adopt green power solutions to safeguard human health and the environment.

The Village was recently awarded the GPP for having 29% of its electricity consumption sourced from green energy. The Village receives environmental grants through the North Shore Electricity Aggregation Consortium allowing the adoption of green energy at no additional cost to residents.

The Green Power Partnership outlines key goals that align with the Village’s dedication to environmental stewardship. These goals include advancing the American market for green power, encouraging the development of new U.S.-based renewable electricity sources, reducing air emissions and pollution, recognizing leadership and impact in green power use, and supporting basic market principles and practices. Currently, the Village of Deerfield is one of just 102 local governments to be awarded a certificate nationwide.

The Green Power Partnership provides a framework for municipalities to make informed choices about their power generation. This includes credible minimum green power usage benchmarks, market and supply options information, assistance and guidance, along with public recognition for green power leadership and use.

The Village of Deerfield is recognized on the EPA’s GPP website and received a road sign from the EPA to demonstrate our commitment to a green future. This is one of several initiatives that advances the goals of the Village’s 2021 Climate Action Report.
