41 Battles To The END To Defend Their Home Track
At CSL NORTH Championships
ON Friday May 16th the Deerfield Track & Field Program hosted the 2014 OUTDOOR CSL North Conference Championships. The entire program was on display and we were very proud to host such a great meet and we did that with character and class. So 1st off a BIG thank you to all parents, volunteers, and the 41 Track & Field Team for helping make this a professional and outstanding experience for our league. It was a great night!

The Varsity team had come in as two time defending Champions of the CSL North and wanted badly to 3 peat on their home track. The meet was classic Track & Field with all 18 events providing the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The CSL meet always is an emotional roller coaster because no coach or team is looking at PR’s they simply want to know the PLACES as it truly is the ultimate TEAM MEET. The Warriors knew coming in they had to win the Field events and win them big. We did win the field with earning 52pts over the league with some huge performances out of Triple Jump, and the THROWS FORCE who put 25pts down in Shot and Disc, but we also knew that we had to have a 30pt cushion to have a chance and we only had a 7pt cushion coming out of the field as Highland Park stepped up and scored 45pts in the Field. Championships are always won in the Field Events and it has been that way for Deerfield in every year of my 16 years here and that will never change. From that point coming out of the Field it was a tough hill to climb with HP clearly having the momentum as they knew they did exactly what they needed to do stay close and they did it to perfection. Having said that we absolutely fought and fought and came to race on the Track as we clearly out performed our seeds all over the Track and our boys really showed guts, heart, and the 41 Spirit all night on the track. We were setting PR’s and fighting the last 100m of every race like I haven’t seen all season and that always makes a coach proud that the TEAM understands what the sport is supposed to teach you.
The meet was a battle but in the end a good Highland Park Team defended their Indoor Title with their 1st Outdoor Title in 20+years with an impressive 162pts to our 131pts and Niles North’2 3rd place 122pts. The boys did keep a nice streak alive as the DHS Track & Field Team has finished either 1st or 2nd the last 9 years in a row. That’s a real mark of excellence and consistency that shows the quality of our Track & Field program. We couldn’t be more proud of this team and who they have become the last 15 weeks under the 41 Philosophy.

The F/S squad simply had so much of their team pulled up to Varsity that they had many athletes thrust into the starting lineup and they simply gave gutsy efforts all night everywhere as they finished 5th in the league. The coaches really loved the fight by this group as they knew that about 80pts was taken up to the varsity of the F/S Squad. Great Fight Boys!
