• Man Wielding Machete Called Victim Racial Epithets During IL Hate Crime Attack: Police (patch.com) — Police say a DeKalb resident has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, hate crime, and domestic battery after a machete attack inside a shared home on Edgebrook Drive. Officers responded just after midnight Thursday, found the victim with a severe arm injury, and later recovered the weapon. The victim was hospitalized, and the suspect allegedly admitted attacking over a money dispute.
   

• Vendors happy with lively start to Sycamore Farmers Market (shawlocal.com) — Sycamore’s weekly farmers market has moved to the DeKalb County History Center grounds, drawing big crowds, live jazz, and a packed parking lot on opening day. Vendors from Sycamore and nearby towns praised the new, more visible location and community feel. Shoppers can visit Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. through Sept. 1 for local food, music, and a chance to explore DeKalb County history exhibits.
