Aim to bring people together around a shared goal Progressive Caucus
The Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus hosts a gathering with the intention of bringing people together around a shared cause.
The Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus event was hosted by well-known Pakistani American Mr. Tariq Siddiqui, and almost 150 individuals attended, including numerous local elected officials and numerous prominent personalities from the Chicago political scene.
Founded in 2013, the Progressive Reform Caucus of the Chicago City Council is a group of aldermen in the council. Its stated goal is "creating a more just and equal Chicago, combating all forms of discrimination, and advancing public policies that offer genuine opportunity to all Chicagoans, especially those who have been left out of our society’s prosperity." There were 19 members as of the 2023–2027 term, out of the 50 aldermen on the council.
Leaders of the Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus gathered for dinner at the Chicago Alhambra Palace, Ballroom on July 16th, 2024, at 6p.m.

The hosts of the event, Mr. Tariq, invited several state officials, representatives from local labor unions and the business community, as well as prominent figures from the Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus, such as Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago, Emanuel Chris Welch, Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives, and Cook County President Tony Periwinkle.
The Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus is a group of influential people in Chicago created with the intention of "representing the needs and interests of Chicago's Progressive Caucus.

Alderwoman Maria Hadden, Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus and Chairwoman of the Committee on Environmental Protection and Energy attended the occasion as well along with all city Caucus members. the Progressive Reform Caucus, a group which currently consists of 19 City Council members. She said, “Our caucus started in 2013 our Caucus is all diverse and vibrant. Our Progressive Caucus object is to work together and move together.”
The Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus supported a symbolic resolution calling for a ceasefire in Israel's assault on Gaza on Jan. 31, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois. The resolution passed by a vote of 24 to 23 after Mayor Brandon Johnson cast the tie-breaking vote.
Many well-known members of the community who are Pakistani Americans and South Asian Americans also attend the dinner.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said, “Work together acknowledges great things. I had the opportunity to work with the mayor and the governor to make the position forward to continuing to do that, and how to support the Chicago City Council.
Throughout the event, all presenters and attendees acknowledged Mr. Siddiqui's noteworthy accomplishments and remarks for Chicagoland as well as his tireless efforts on behalf of the city and South Asian Americans and Pakistani Americans.
It's an excellent chance for the Progressive caucus to get together and work toward a shared goal and unite.
Mr. Brandon Johnson, the mayor of Chicago, said during his speech, “Progressive Caucus is a movement in Chicago. We work together to make Chicago safer. Working people are valued in the city. I am looking to work together for the rest of the term. I see the critical movement in the world as a city that can welcome arrivals and call for reformation. The progressive movement is Chicago and Cook County.”
Mayor Johnson also acknowledged Tariq Siddiqui for his tireless efforts organizing the community for all the events and stated that the purpose of today's gathering is to acknowledge our successes and honor individuals in our community who remain role models and sources of inspiration. Our subject, Uniting Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus Continues, is evidence of our voice's unification beyond calls for unification.
A community activist Salman Aftab said."It's always an honor to join this kind of event; everyone comes together and shows unity." He also appreciates the historical resolution to cease fire passed with the support of Progressive Reform Caucus and Mayor Johnson.
In an interview with the local press, Tariq Siddiqui stated, " Johnson is the most progressive mayor that Chicago has seen since Mayor Harold Washington, Since Mayor Johnson’s administration implements many of the progressive policies since he took charge. Elected officials from the Chicago City Council Progressive Reform Caucus are cordially invited to meet under one roof to speak about thoughts and concerns and come up with solutions. This is a magnificent illustration of solidarity. This is a time we should stand together and unite. If we don't stand united, we will be gone."
