• Oakton Board Selects New Chairperson (journal-topics.com) — Des Plaines residents now have local representation on Oakton College’s Board of Trustees, as student Jose San Martin was elected to a one-year student trustee term. The board also chose Morton Grove’s Theresa Bashiri-Remetio as chair and reshuffled other leadership roles, decisions that will shape how Oakton pursues its Vision 2030 plan and serves area students and families.    

• Bears megaproject bill takes baby steps in Senate, but ‘lots of work to be done' (shawlocal.com) — A major stadium-financing bill that could keep the Bears in Illinois is now before the state Senate, with Des Plaines Democrat Sen. Laura Murphy helping steer the debate. Lawmakers say they’ll take time to scrutinize property tax breaks, amusement taxes, and other incentives tied to redeveloping Arlington Park, while also countering Indiana’s billion-dollar bid for the team.
