Fake License Plate Leads To Felony Charge: Des Plaines Police Blotter

Other reports include a wallet stolen at a Metra station, a hit-and-run crash and an order of protection violation.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Milwaukee man faces a felony charge after officers determined the temporary license plate on his Land Rover was fictitious, according to the Des Plaines Police Department's latest crime report.

The plate's number came back to a junked 1998 Saturn with registration that expired in 2015, authorities reported.

The following information comes from Des Plaines Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

ALTERED OR FORGED REGISTRATION

Trashawn T. Carrington, 28, of Milwaukee, was arrested at 1:35 a.m. Oct. 1, following a traffic stop near Des Plaines River Road and Sherwin Avenue.

An officer initially spotted a black Land Rover traveling south near Des Plaines River Road and Howard Avenue without a rear registration light. The vehicle displayed a temporary Wisconsin license plate.

A records check showed the plate's number belonged to a junked 1998 red Saturn whose registration expired in 2015. The temporary plate itself listed the 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport, according to the report.

The officer also determined Carrington's Wisconsin driver's license was suspended. Wisconsin authorities subsequently confirmed the plate was fictitious, and the Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved a felony charge.

Carrington was charged with one felony count of altered or forged registration and one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license. He also received tickets for having no rear registration light and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was cited and released with court information.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Saad A. Ali, 27, of Skokie, was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of violating an order of protection following an incident reported at 6:47 p.m. Oct. 1.

Officers responded to the 2100 block of Spruce Avenue, where a person reported that Ali contacted them after being served with an order of protection. Officers confirmed the order was valid and had been served.

The person reported receiving several emails from Ali, who also sent text messages to a family member in violation of the order, according to authorities.

Ali later came to the police station and acknowledged contacting the person and their family member. He was taken into custody and brought to a Cook County courthouse for a detention hearing.

WARRANT ARREST

Matthew A. Struk, 38, of Itasca, was arrested at 2:50 a.m. Oct. 2, after officers responding to a suspicious person report at the Cumberland Metra station in the 400 block of Northwest Highway learned he had an outstanding warrant.

Officers located Struk in the area and confirmed a valid, extraditable warrant through the Lake County Sheriff's Office. He was taken to the Des Plaines police station and later brought to a Cook County courthouse for a detention hearing.

THEFT OF LOST OR MISLAID PROPERTY

A 56-year-old Des Plaines woman reported at 11 a.m. Oct. 1, that her wallet was stolen after she accidentally left it in a restroom at the Metra station in the 1500 block of Miner Street.

After contacting her credit card companies, she learned one of her cards had been used for two transactions in Des Plaines.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH

A hit-and-run crash was reported at 9:12 a.m. Sept. 30, at Cumberland Circle and Golf Road.

A driver traveling southeast through the traffic circle toward the Broadway Street exit reported that a northbound black Nissan Altima entered from Golf Road without yielding and struck the front passenger side of their vehicle. The Altima's driver was described as a young white man.
