BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

Officers responded to Ballard Road and Ottawa Street around 3:45 a.m. Oct. 5, after a report of people checking vehicle door handles. Several vehicles appeared to have been rummaged through.

A vehicle in the 400 block of Bellaire Avenue had a black duffel bag containing schoolbooks valued at approximately $700 and a backpack containing cosmetics valued at approximately $150 stolen from it. The owner wished to sign complaints and have evidence technicians process the vehicle.

Two other vehicles at the residence appeared to have been rummaged through, but their owners reported nothing missing and declined to sign complaints or have the vehicles processed.

THEFT

A shopper reported that someone stole his handbag and iPad from his shopping cart at Jewel in the 800 block of South Elmhurst Road around 9:56 p.m. Oct. 5. Shortly afterward, an unauthorized $50 transaction was made using a credit card from the handbag.

A store employee reported seeing a woman in her 50s hurriedly leave while carrying a handbag matching the description of the stolen property.

BATTERY

A man reported being spat on while sleeping in a walkway near a building in the 700 block of Lee Street around 3:15 a.m. Oct. 7.

The man told officers he was awakened by three people, including a man known as "Chucky," who looked over a concrete barrier, confronted him and spat on him. The three fled toward a parking garage across the street as the victim sought help from a passerby to contact police.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

Officers responded to the 600 block of Sixth Avenue at 5:18 p.m. Oct. 7, after a woman discovered multiple scratches along both sides of her vehicle.

She last saw the vehicle undamaged around 8:30 p.m. Oct. 6. Officers observed deep scratches extending from the front fender across both doors to the rear fender.

OFFICER IMPERSONATION, AGGRAVATED BATTERY

Raul Quezada-Bollas, 37, of Chicago, was arrested around 12:10 a.m. Oct. 6, in the 1000 block of East Algonquin Road. He was charged with false personation of a peace officer, aggravated battery to a peace officer and drinking in public places.

Officers initially responded to the 1500 block of Lee Street around 11:33 p.m. Oct. 5, after a report of an intoxicated person causing a disturbance. During the investigation, Quezada-Bollas repeatedly identified himself as a Chicago police officer and federal agent, although a database check confirmed he was not a law enforcement officer, police reported.

Officers also observed him drinking alcohol in public and later riding an e-bike in the roadway. After he was taken into custody and brought to the police station, he threw a sock that struck an officer in the face, according to the report.

After receiving a Miranda warning, Quezada-Bollas admitted throwing the sock and said he tells people he is a police officer because his mother is one. He was scheduled for a court hearing Oct. 6 in Skokie.

WEAPONS CHARGES

Anthony Garcia, 30, of Chicago, was arrested at 6:43 p.m. Oct. 6, at Rivers Casino in the 3000 block of South River Road. He was charged with two counts each of unlawful use or possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and Firearm Owner's Identification Card violations.

Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. after casino security reported finding two firearms concealed in bushes near the surface parking lot.

Security footage showed Garcia retrieving two firearms from a backpack and hiding them in the bushes, according to police. Officers located him inside the casino and took him into custody.

A database check showed both firearms had been reported stolen from Elk Grove Village. Evidence technicians recovered the guns, and a fingerprint check confirmed Garcia's identity and prior felony convictions.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Bejnamin Redzic, 52, of Mount Prospect, was arrested Oct. 6 after his ex-wife reported contacts that appeared to violate an order of protection.

The woman told officers Redzic contacted her through text messages and social media. She also reported that he used a shared Instagram account to obtain photographs of her children and reposted a photograph of her daughter and the daughter's boyfriend on Facebook with a threatening message.

The woman additionally reported that Redzic repeatedly drove past her home and appeared in parking lots at her children's workplaces. The report noted those actions did not violate the order as written because only the woman was listed as a protected party.

Officers reviewed the text messages, located Redzic at his Mount Prospect residence and took him into custody without incident. He was sent to a court hearing the following day.
