Des Plaines artist Melissa Arostegui to Exhibit in NYC Art Show

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea's Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Des Plaines artist Melissa Arostegui in Interpretative Realms.

Melissa Arostegui’s exhibit of mixed media, acrylic, and oil paintings reads like the diary of a stranger. Each composition encourages interaction with its viewers, allowing them to witness a glimpse into the intimacy between the artist and subject. The familiarity of the portraits evokes a nostalgia, as the subjects burst out of the frame, their motion mimicking a candid photograph taken on a disposable camera. Arostegui’s tall canvases bend natural perspectives, catching the reflections of a moving bus or jogging pedestrian. Her dimensions incorporate views from skyscrapers and cafe windows, the cropped framing of public transit, humans, and animals allowing a seductive glimpse of a metropolitan neighborhood.

Arostegui carries her intimate approach to city life over to her luscious still lifes, embodying a pursuit to realize the human spirit. As a body of work, Arostegui’s paintings humor the viewer’s personal memory. She populates an environment familiar to anyone who has gotten pleasantly lost in a city.
