
A student-created Day of the Dead display will fill walls and display cases from Oct. 20-Nov. 21, 2010. Paper skeletons, coffin toys, miniature graveyards, drawings, tombstones, and skeleton maracas are all part of the exhibit. Seventh and eighth grade students from , and in Des Plaines created the projects as assignments in their Spanish language classes, and their teachers worked with History Center staff to create the exhibit.
The holiday Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos in Spanish) occurs on Nov. 1 & 2 and is celebrated throughout Mexico. It is an occasion
to remember family and loved ones who have died. Typical festivities include visits to the cemetery, colorful decorations and candies, and creating altars for deceased loved ones.
The Day of the Dead exhibit is free and open during the History
Center's regular hours of operation, Wednesday-Friday: 9am-6pm and the first and third Sunday of each month: 1-4pm.
