Based on Anna and the King by Margaret Landon
Based in part on the true story of Anna Leonowens, The King and I is a tale of what happens when East meets West and cultures collide. Anna, a widow from Wales who takes on the role of schoolteacher to the King of Siam’s children and wives, is forced to re-think stereotypes at the same time that King Mongkut slowly learns to have respect for Anna and her opinions. In 1862 Siam AGAINST a backdrop of starcrossed lovers Tuptim and Lun Tha, people resistant to change, and a world trying to embrace Western culture, how much admiration can there be between Anna and King Mongkut without tearing apart a country? With memorable songs such as “Shall We Dance?” and “Getting to Know You”, The King and I is bound to fill you with hope and understanding.
