Golf Mill Shopping Center is hosting 'Then & Now' Festival of Trees, a friendly competition that invites organizations to decorate trees that will be on display in front of JCPenney from Saturday, Nov. 20 – Saturday, Dec. 4.
Families, friends and shoppers will vote for their favorite tree between Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 by donating non-perishable food items at the Customer Service Center. The event will help replenish the Maine Township Food Pantry. Each non-perishable item will count as one vote. The tree with the most 'votes' wins. Shoppers are able to 'get in the picture' and post a photo of them on Golf Mill's Facebook page and track the progress of donations.
To kick off the holiday celebration at the shopping center, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, festivities will convene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20 with a tree lighting ceremony.

The trees come alive with lights as Santa Claus arrives in a convertible and parades to the Santa Train Depot. Shoppers, friends and families are invited to attend the ceremony and join in the festivities of the day.
Free hot chocolate from Cinnabon from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., free coffee from Mrs. Field's from 10am – noon, and ornament decorating courtesy of Paint-N-Party from 10 a.m. to noon will also be part of the festivities.

Reflecting the 50th anniversary theme, 'Then & Now' provides a wide spectrum for creative decorations such as an era, a fashion trend, or a significant movie of the times. Golf Mill is excited to see the creative ideas of the participating organizations; the Chicago Pet Rescue, Home Depot, Maine Township Mainestreamers, the Niles Chamber of Commerce, the Niles Fire Department, the Niles Police Department, the Niles Public Library, the Niles Senior Center, St. Juliana School in Edison Park and St. Matthews Church in Niles.
Regina Verdico, Director of Marketing says, "Golf Mill is an established center that continues to support the Niles community with unique outreach programs. We are excited about our new Festival of Trees program and supporting the Maine Township Food Pantry."
