Oakton hosts domestic violence workshop July 13
Oakton Community College will host the workshop "Exploring the Domestic Violence Experiences of Arab American Women" on July 13.
Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, will host a continuing education workshop on Wednesday, July 13 that will provide the opportunity for social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, nursing home administrators, occupational therapists, and teachers to learn more about domestic abuse and its repercussions.
De Paul University’s Neil J. Vincent, Ph.D., associate professor of social work, and Khadijah Khuderia, research assistant, will host the seminar “Exploring the Domestic Violence Experiences of Arab American Women: Practice Implications,” from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in Rooms 1604-1606. Vincent and Khuderia will present findings from interviews with female Arab American and Arab immigrant survivors of domestic violence.
Prior to the workshop, participants can enjoy a continental breakfast and networking opportunities from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Conference registration is $15 and required by July 7. Space is limited. Upon completion, attendees will be eligible for continuing education credits in cultural competency.
