Oakton Visiting Artist Series to feature painter Gwendolyn Zabick

Painter and curator Gwendolyn Zabicki will serve as the presenter at Oakton's Visiting Artist Series event Oct. 15.

Noted painter and curator Gwendolyn Zabicki will discuss her life as an artist from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, Room 1625. The Visiting Artist Series event is free and open to the public.

“Gwendolyn will discuss that being a professional artist includes making artwork, but there is so much more involved,” Oakton Chair of Art and Design Lou Pierozzi says. “She will touch on how forming and working with grassroots organizations, teaching, curating and engaging in the community are essential as well.”

Zabicki teaches painting and drawing at the Hyde Park Art Center. Her work has been showcased in galleries around the world. In addition, she has curated exhibitions at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and has upcoming curatorial projects at the College of DuPage and the Riverside Arts Center. She earned her master’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her bachelor’s degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work can be viewed at gwendolynzabicki.com.
