Teacher From Des Plaines Killed in I-294 Crash While Helping Driver

A Chicago Public Schools teacher who lived in Des Plaines was killed Saturday morning in a chain-reaction crash on the Tri-State Tollway, the Chicago Tribune reports. The victim was identified as 54-year-old Jeffery Komada.
Komada's vehicle rear-ended a minivan stalled in traffic that in turn caused a Volkswagen to hit Komada's car. Komada exited the vehicle and was hit by a semitrailer truck.

Kornado got out of his car to help a female driver who was having car trouble on I-294 near West Touhy Avenue, according to ABC 7 Chicago. The woman had her young daughter with her. Kornado was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Komado was a math teacher and the director of technology at William Howard Taft High School in Chicago, according to a message posted on the school's website.
