10 Cars Burglarized In Downers Grove: Police

Police say the car burglary spree took place between Aug. 6 and Aug. 9.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove police are investigating 10 car burglaries that took place between Aug. 6 and Aug. 9.

Car Burglarized at McCullom Park

Police say a driver parked their car at McCullom Park near the tennis courts around 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 6. They returned to their car just before 10: 30 a.m. to find the front passenger's side window had been shattered. Police say a $200 purse, $950 cash and credit and debit cards were reported stolen.

3 Cars Burglarized in 3900 Block of Downers Drive

A resident told police someone burglarized three of their cars sometime between 1:45 a.m. and 7:57 a.m. on Aug. 9. Prescription glasses, a first aid kit, a winter hat and cash were reported stolen. Police say the cars had been unlocked at the time of the burglaries.

Car Burglarized in 4300 Block of Washington Street

A car was burglarized at the above address just after 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 9. A resident told police they found their vehicle "in disarray" when they came out of their home just before 11 a.m. Police say the resident reviewed video surveillance and saw a person in dark pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt get out of a sedan that had pulled up and parked in front of their driveway.

Police say the person and another suspect, for whom a description was not available, got into the resident's car and later exited. Nothing was reported stolen.

3 Cars Burglarized in 1700 Block of Carol Street

Three unlocked cars were burglarized outside a home on Carol Street sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 4 a.m. on Aug. 9, according to a police report. A resident told police they found their garage door open, along with the doors to at least two of their cars. The inside of one car was "in disarray," police say. The resident reported that $5 in cash had been stolen.

Work Van Burglarized in 1000 Block of Mistwood Lane

Police say more than $1000 worth of tools and digital equipment was stolen when an unlocked work van was burglarized in the 1000 block of Mistwood Lane. The person who drives the work van told police the incident happened sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10:44 a.m. on Aug. 9.

Car Burglarized in 4900 Block of Stonewall Avenue

A resident told police a woman came to their door early Aug. 9 to say she found their driver's license on Warren Avenue. This prompted the resident to later notice that their car's glove compartment and center console had been "disturbed," according to a police report. Police say the car was burglarized sometime between 11 p.m. on Aug. 8 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 9.
