$10K In Copper Cables Stolen From Downers Grove Construction Site

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are looking for a suspect or suspects who stole $10,000 worth of heavy electrical wire from a remodeling site. The victim told police five spools of copper cable were stolen, with each spool weighing around 300 pounds.

Police say the suspect(s) also cut out the copper tubing that had already been installed in the building's ceiling.

According to a police report, the burglary took place sometime between Feb.1 and Feb. 13. The victim, who is an electrical contractor, was remodeling a building when the spools of copper cable went missing. They told police there were eight four-foot spools beneath a staircase inside the building.

Three of the spools were left untouched, police say.
