14-Year-Old Boy Offered Ride By Stranger In Downers Grove

Police are urging parents to stay vigilant after a 14-year-old boy was approached by a man in Downers Grove.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downes Grove are investigating a suspicious incident in which a young boy was approached by a stranger. The boy, 14, was reportedly walking in the parking lot of Downers Grove South High School when a man in a truck offered him a ride.

Police say the boy declined the ride and headed through Ruth Powers Park. He later saw the truck again near the intersection of Springside and Bolson Drive before the vehicle drove away.

The man was described as a white male in his 30s with short brown hair. He was last seen driving a green or blue pickup truck.

In the wake of this incident, police have heightened patrols and are urging parents to remind children of the dangers of speaking to strangers.

Police added that "children should also be instructed to run to a familiar house or to school and get help immediately if approached by a stranger. The police should then be called as soon as possible."
