$25K Worth Of Cigarettes Stolen From Smoke Shop In Downers Grove: PD

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A car was stolen, and nearly $25,000 worth of cigarettes were taken during a smoke shop burglary and other crimes were reported on the Downers Grove crime blotter from late November and early December.

2 Cars Burglarized in 1600 Block of 75th Street

Someone shattered windows to gain entry to two cars that were parked in the 1600 block of 75th Street on Nov. 25. The owner of one of the cars reported a gray backpack containing diapers and other baby care items had been stolen. The burglaries took place sometime between 9:11 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Items Stolen from Hobby Lobby

Police were called to the Hobby Lobby at 36 Ogden Ave. just before 5 p.m. on Nov. 29 for a report of a retail theft. According to the blotter, a woman stole jewelry and other items from the store. The value of the stolen items was less than $150, so police ticketed the woman.

Catalytic Converters Stolen from 2 Trucks

Catalytic converters were cut from two work trucks that were parked in a lot in the 5300 block of Walnut Avenue. The thefts happened sometime between Nov. 27 and Dec. 1.

Car Stolen from Lot in 4100 Block of Finley Road

A locked 2016 Hyundai Tucson was stolen from a parking lot in the 4100 block of Finley Road on Dec. 4, police say. The car's owner told officers she parked the vehicle around 9:40 a.m. When she got back to the parking lot around 8:15 p.m., she noticed her car was missing. According to police, shattered glass was found at the scene.

Work boots, a toolbox and a dolly had been inside the car, according to the crime blotter.

U.S. Smoke and Vape Burglarized

Police say cartons of cigarettes valued at $24,806, were stolen during a burglary that took place at U.S. Smoke and Vape, 2952 Finley Rd., on Dec. 1. According to the crime blotter, someone broke the shop's window to gain entry around 2:55 a.m. before stealing 162 cigarette cartons in various brands.
