3 Charged With Armed Carjackings In Downers Grove, Warrenville

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office has filed charges against two men and one juvenile in connection with a string of carjackings that recently took place in Downers Grove and Warrenville. Daysean Washington-Davis, 19, of Chicago, and Emanuel Embry, 19, of Chicago are being held without bond and a 17-year-old is being detained in connection with the incidents.

Police say that on Nov. 11 just before 7 p.m. a mom was driving back from the grocery store with her college-age daughter and was approached by a masked juvenile with a gun as she pulled into her garage in the 2000 block of Prairie Avenue in Downers Grove. The juvenile showed the gun and said "get out of the car," which prompted the woman to hand over the keys.

According to police, the juvenile fled and was followed by another car driven by Washington-Davis.

On Dec. 13, a victim on County Ridge Road in Warrenville told police that he was followed as he was driving and that the juvenile, Washington-Davis, and Embry were in the car that was tailing him. The victim told police that when he got to his house, he was approached by the juvenile and Embry, who were armed. Embry and the juvenile are accused of then demanding the man's car and wallet before driving off in the stolen car.

Police say that about 20 minutes later, Embry and the juvenile approached a pregnant woman in the 1700 block of Hawkins Avenue while armed and masked and demanded her vehicle. The woman complied and Embry and the juvenile fled, according to police.

A friend of the victim followed Embry and the juvenile, which caused them to get out of the car and flee the scene, according to authorities. While the friend's car was stopped in traffic, police say, one of the defendants got into that car and fled the scene.

The juvenile, Embry, and Washington-Davis were taken into custody after an investigation.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "It is alleged that for two weeks, Mr. Embry, Mr. Washington-Davis and their juvenile accomplice traveled to DuPage County on multiple occasions, threatened innocent people, one of whom is pregnant, at gunpoint and stole their vehicle. In DuPage County, we will not put up with this type of random, violent behavior. "

Downers Grove Police Chief Shanon Gillette thanked residents for their help in the case, saying, "I would like to thank our law enforcement partners for contributing their time, resources and expertise to this case. I would also like to thank the residents of Downers Grove who are truly our eyes and ears on the street and provided valuable information and evidence to further our investigation."

Embry has been charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking. Washington-Davis has been charged with three counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The juvenile has been charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

If convicted, Washington-Davis and Embry face up to 45 years in prison. The juvenile faces the same sentence if tried and convicted as an adult.
