$5K Worth Of Koi Fish Stolen From Pond In Downers Grove: Cops

Police say two koi fish valued at $2,500 each were stolen from a residential pond in Downers Grove.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Two large koi fish were stolen from a pond at a residence in Downers Grove, according to police. The resident told police that the theft took place sometime between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at their home in the 1900 block of Oxnard Dr.

Police say the homeowner reported that a carabiner had been removed from a rear gate on the east side of their home to allow the suspect(s) to gain entry to the property. Once inside, the suspect(s) removed two koi fish that were roughly each 22 inches long and marked with bright orange and white.

The resident told police one koi fish had a black saddle design on its back and another had black dots on its belly and back. Roughly 50 smaller koi fish were left unharmed in the pond. The stolen koi fish were valued at $2,500 each, making the total reported loss $5,ooo.

Police say the resident told them the pond had been covered with netting to prevent animals from getting at the fish.
