WESTMONT, IL — More than 70,000 pounds of bananas are on display at the Jewel-Osco in Westmont Wednesday morning as the store and Fresh Del Monte attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest fruit display in history.

The sprawling display took three days to build. After an adjudicator assesses the world record attempt on Wednesday, the bananas will be free for customers. Any additional bananas will be donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, Fresh Del Monte and Jewel said.

The previous Guinness World Record for largest fruit display was set earlier in 2022 with 17,000 pounds of citrus fruits, according to a news release.
