Alyssa Allgood; Best jazz vocalist to sing in Downers Grove
On Friday, November 20th at 7;30 pm, Alyssa Allgood will be performing at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Downers Grove .

After recently placing in the top ten semifinalists in the 2015 Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition and just releasing her EP, Lady Bird, which was described as the most refined offering in the genre yet from All About Jazz, Alyssa Allgood continues to sing to excited audiences with her clear voice, defining a beautiful feel for true jazz.
Alyssa has received several other jazz awards including the Best Collegiate Vocal Jazz Soloist of 2014 in DownBeat Magazine’s Student Music Awards as well as being selected as one of the top 40 semifinalists in the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and wining the People’s Choice Award in the 2015 Jazz Improvisation Contest held by the Luminarts Cultural Foundation in Chicago. But how did this astounding career and unique talent begin for Alyssa Allgood?
I grew up singing and began taking voice at North Central Jazz Camp at the age of twelve, again being recommended by a teacher to pursue my talent. From there, Alyssa became a staff member at the camp and everything evolved where she was exposed to high quality jazz. Above all, she wanted to learn and was truly motivated to perfect her talent but also watched and listened to the encouraging sounds of teachers and well-established musicians. It was Alyssa’s senior year of college when she was recognized in Downbeat Magazine which reminded her that a career in vocal jazz was not only a personal passion that she could not give up but moved her one step closer to offering paying audiences a repertoire of vocal arrangements.
