Downers Grove To Hold 1st Reading For Lurie Children's Hospital Proposal

The village will discuss proposed amendments for the planned unit development at 3300 Lacey Road.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove Village Council will hold a first reading Tuesday to discuss proposed amendments to the planned unit development (PUD) to allow for the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital at 3300 Lacey Road.

According to village documents, the site's original planned unit development "identified a variety of office buildings, open space, transportation and roadway improvements." This year, the PUD was amended to allow a hospital as an approved use, requiring applicants to participate in an entitlement process.

Lurie Children's Hospital is proposing a five-story hospital building and a two-story outpatient clinic for the 13.2-acre site.

The buildings will be attached by a shared main entrance with an area for patient drop-off and pickup.

The hospital's emergency room area wil have a spot for patient pickup and drop-off at the building's southeast corner. South of this, a helipad will be linked to the emergency department's back entrance by a gurney path that measures eight feet wide.

Per village documents, the helipad will accommodate patients who must be transferred by helicopter to the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.

Village documents state that the proposed development aligns with the Guiding DG Comprehensive Plan's standards.

In July, Lurie announced its plans to expand with its first suburban inpatient hospital in Downers Grove.

The low-acuity care hospital will include an emergency department, inpatient beds, surgical suites and dedicated departments for cardiology, oncology and other specializations.
