Armed Carjacking Under Investigation In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are investigating an armed carjacking that took place Friday afternoon. The incident was reported in the 1700 block of Hawkins Avenue just before 2:30 p.m., police say.

According to police, two armed men came out of a silver Honda Pilot and approached the victim, demanding he get out of his 2017 Kia Sportage and hand over the keys. Police say the victim complied.

After the armed carjacking, Downers Grove Police Chief Shanon Gillette reminded residents to stay aware of their surroundings at all times and to relinquish property if someone demands it.
