Author Talks, Reading Lists Planned For Black History Month: DGPL

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Public Library (DGPL) has curated several events to spotlight Black authors, producers, reporters and other prominent figures throughout Black History Month 2022. The programming includes author discussions and movie talks, along with online resources.

Here's a look at what to expect at DGPL in February:

• Feb 10 at 6:30 p.m.: Book talk, virtual visit with author Jocelyn Nicole Johnson, whose short story "Control Negro," made the list of Best American Short Stories in 2018. Johnson will discuss her book, "My Monticello."
• Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m.: An evening with New York Times bestselling author, Jasmine Gillory, who will be in conversation with Morgan Rogers. Gillory has penned romance novels that include "The Proposal," which garnered praise from NPR
• Feb. 20 at 2 p.m.: Blues 101 concert and lecture with performer Fruteland Jackson
• Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.: Zoom Q&A session with Taya Graham and Steven Janis. Graham and Janis co-produced the award-winning documentary "The Friendliest Town." They will be joined by Michael Childress, who serves as president of the DuPage County branch of the NAACP

The staff at DGPL has also curated Black History Month reading lists for adults, teens and children. Patrons can also access educational resources online to learn more about Black history.
