Automatic CPR Machine Helps Batavia Firefighters Save Lives

The CPR machine can provide more continuous resuscitation efforts than humans.

BATAVIA, IL --- Batavia firefighters now have an extra tool in their arsenal for when they are rescuing fire victims. The fire department recently purchased an automatic CPR machine to aid first responders in reviving victims of cardiac arrest.

The machine, which was funded via a $15,000 contribution from local Firefighters Union 3436, is easily portable and can fit patients of any body type, fire officials said in a press release. Since the machine is automatic, it's able to provide CPR continuously and "without fatigue," firefighter Chris LaFleur said in a statement.

Fire Chief Randy Deicke and his crew are hopeful that the Lucas Automatic CPR machine will help save the lives of more people who suffer from cardiac arrest. Deicke said, "This unit is an important tool in being prepared to help people experiencing cardiac arrest."
