Barricaded Man Taken For Evaluation After Three-Hour Standoff: Police
Downers Grove police say 53-year-old man disarmed officer of Taser during struggle, then barricaded himself in his apartment.

A 53-year-old man who barricaded himself in a Downers Grove apartment building was taken to a hospital for evaluation after a three-hour standoff with police on Wednesday afternoon.
Downers Grove police responded to Fairway Grove Apartments at 2415 Ogden Ave. to investigate a report of a man acting irrationally and blocking residents from entering an apartment building around 2:50 p.m.
When an officer approached the man and began to question him, the man purportedly struck the officer. A physical struggle ensued as the officer attempted to gain control of the man.

During the struggle, the man allegedly disarmed the officer of his Taser. Police said the man then fled to his apartment and barricaded himself inside.
After several attempts to contact the man, the DuPage County multi-jurisdictional SWAT team was activated. Eventually, police were able to reach the 53-year-old man by telephone, who surrendered to police at 5:47 p.m.

The man was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove for an evaluation. Felony charges are pending, police said.
