Be Careful Out There

National Weather Service warns of snow, wind and frigid temperatures.

A winter storm warning will be in effect from 3 a.m. to midnight Sunday, with four to seven inches of snow, wind gusts in excess of 45 mph and dangerously cold wind chills predicted.

The National Weather Service in Chicago today issued the warning for north central and northeast Illinois.

Today's warm temperatures will give way to bitterly cold conditions, with wind chills of 10 to 25 below zero expected to continue through Tuesday morning. Rain could turn to freezing drizzle tonight along and south of Interstate 88, with snow accompanying a surge of bitterly cold air expected to move into the area by daybreak Sunday, according to the NWS. Snowfalls of four to seven inches are predicted.

Gusty winds will follow on Sunday, creating blowing and drifting snow, and visibility of less than a quarter mile. The NWS advised that driving will be hazardous with possible falling branches and power lines, and blizzard conditions in open areas.
