Beekeeping Camp Scholarships Now Available

Scholarships for the Junior Beekeeping Summer Camp at Lyman Woods are being offered by the Cook-DuPage Beekeeping Association.

Beekeeping is a fast-growing hobby in Illinois, but Lyman Woods in Downers Grove remains one of the only places in the state to offer a beekeeping summer camp, and scholarships for the camp are now available.

The one-week camp, open to ages 9-12, gives campers the chance to suit up and inspect hives, make candles from beeswax and harvest honey from the hives.

Over 20 junior beekeepers have taken part in the camp in the last couple of years. “The best part of camp was using a hot knife to get the capping off the honey frames. I wish I could do this camp every day because it is so fun” said one camper.
