Murdered Vermont Woman's Boyfriend Arrested Driving Her Stolen Car In Downers Grove

Downers Grove Police arrested him after a traffic stop.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Police arrested a man who was driving a car that belonged to a woman who was recently found murdered in Vermont. Randal Gebo, 61, was driving the victim's 2009 Mini Cooper Wednesday when police made a traffic stop and took him into custody.

Police say the car Gebo was driving belonged to Cindy Cook, 59, of Barre, Vermont. Barre's body was found Wednesday, July 12, in a wooded area just outside Montpelier. Her Mini Cooper was reported missing that Friday. That same day, detectives told Vermont State Police that Gebo used Cook's bank card to make a cash withdrawal. After an investigation, Vermont State Police issued a warrant Saturday for Gebo's arrest as a "person of interest" in Cook's murder.

Police were able to track down and arrest Gebo by monitoring the activity on Cook's missing debit card. A federal warrant was issued by authorities in Vermont. Gebo is currently in custody in Illinois.
