Car Windows Smashed At McCullom, Gilbert Parks In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police in Downers Grove are investigating three separate incidents in which car windows were smashed at local parks. The first incident involved two cars that were burglarized at McCullom Park on August 16. Another car was burglarized at the Park District Recreation Center on August 16. The third incident took place at Gilbert Park on August 17.

According to police, a woman had parked her car near her boyfriend's vehicle in the south lot at McCullom Park at around 9:30 p.m. on August 16. When the couple returned to their cars, police say they noticed the windows on both vehicles had been shattered.

The woman told police a blue MP3 player and a black gym bag containing clothes had been stolen from her car. Police say the woman's boyfriend reported that headphones and a wallet containing four credit cards, two debit cards, and a driver's license were stolen from his vehicle.

That same day, a similar burglary was reported at the Downers Grove Park District Recreation Center ats 4500 Belmont. The victim told police that she parked near several park district buses and went inside the building to exercise. When she returned to her car around 10 p.m., police say the woman noticed the passenger window of her car had been smashed in and that a black purse and a pair of blue jeans had been stolen.

On August 17, a resident reported that someone smashed the window of his locked car while it was parked in a lot at Gilbert Park. According to police, the car showed shoe prints and damage on the roof and hood, in addition to a broken windshield. Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicle.
