Cop Grabs Downers Grove Man Resisting Arrest in Half-Nelson: Police

Man was being arrested on domestic battery charges, police say.

A man tried to flee when Downers Grove police showed up with a warrant for his arrest, reports said.

Police said that Fernando Lagunas, 47, was standing in his driveway in the 2500 block of 63rd Street when officers arrive to arrest him on a domestic battery complaint around 10:11 a.m. Aug. 23.

According to the report, police were following up on an investigation from the night before. When asked if he had been involved in a domestic battery the night before, Lagunas admitted that he had.

Told he was under arrest, police said that Lagunas sprinted toward the attached garage toward the door that leads into the house.

The officer grabbed him and placed him in a half-nelson hold, reports said. Lagunas continued to wrestle, using his upper body to try to push off the cop, reports said.

Eventually, the officer was able to escort Lagunas out of the garage and spread him on the car hood until backup units arrived, police said.

Lagunas was charged with resisting a police officer and two charges of domestic battery from the night before. He was taken to DuPage County Jail pending a bond hearing at the time of this report.
