DG 5 Miler Certified as a Green Race
The Downers Grove Five Miler, now in its 38th year, has been certified as a Green Race from the Chicago Area Runners Association.

The DG5Miler has been the flagship road race for the Downers Grove Park District for nearly four decades, and this year, the race has also been certified as a CARA green race.
CARA awards the certification to races that agree to adhere to and uphold CARA’s Best Practices Guidelines. Green initiatives for the 5 miler were introduced in 2014 and include using reusable totes instead of plastic bags for race bags, providing shoe recycling bins for old running shoes on race day; using fewer paper materials for race promotion - and using biodegradable race bibs.
The 2015 race will be held on June 28, and is once again part of the CARA Runners’ Choice circuit. Early bird rates for the 5 miler end on May 31. For more details and to register visit www.dgparks.org/5miler
