Dist. 58 Hosts Digital Learning Workshops in August
Workshops will address social media, digital citizenship, digital tools and basic functions of devices.

Downers Grove Dist. 58 will finish the last of its parent education sessions by hosting two digital learning workshops in August.
The workshops are designed to help parents maximize learning opportunities at home and will address social media, digital citizenship, learning in 1:1 environment, digital tools, and basic functions of 1:1 devices. The sessions are open to all interested parents and community members.
“1:1” stands for “one electronic device per student” and pairing those devices with learning curriculum through traditional and digital materials in the classroom. Such devices can include laptops, iPads, tablets and smart phones. The workshops are designed to help parents maximize

The district plans to purchase 450 additional devices (about $180,000) from the remaining 2013-14 budget, and purchasing another 1,650 devices (about $660,000) out of the 2014-15 budget, according to the Dist. 58 website.
In the future, an additional 1,000 devices ($400,000) would be needed in order to complete the 1:1 program district-wide and provide a device to all K-8 District 58 students.
