District 58 Shares Framework For Onsite, Online Learning

The school district is also exploring a blended learning option in case modified onsite learning is not viable.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — As the new coronavirus crisis continues, Downers Grove Grade School District 58 has announced a proposed framework for modified onsite learning or online instruction at the start of the 2020-21 school year.

The district approved the framework at a board of education meeting Monday. Students in the modified onsite learning option would attend classes with smaller rosters, in addition to required face masks and social distancing. Students in the online learning option would rely solely on e-learning for instruction and would have to commit to a full trimester.

District 58 is also exploring a "blended learning option" if the modified onsite learning option proves not to be viable due to "space constraints, staffing availability and feedback," according to a letter from District 58 Superintendent Dr. Kevin Russell.

In the blended learning model, students would attend classes on an alternating schedule and learn online as well.
