Door Kicked In, Home Ransacked In Downers Grove: Police

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A home in Downers Grove was ransacked after a burglar kicked in the back door to get into the residence while its owners were on vacation, according to police. The burglary was reported by a neighbor on Tuesday in the 7200 block of O'Neill Rd., police say.

When police got to the scene, they saw that the back door and screen door were open. They noticed the door frame and lock plate were both damaged, according to a police report.

Police searched the home and found a safe lying open in an upstairs bedroom and jewelry scattered on the bed. Several drawers had also been rifled through, police say.

Investigating officers called the homeowner, who said they would report any missing items when they got back from vacation.
