Downers Grove To Build New Police Station, Village Hall
The new facility will also include townhomes and a medical center.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- There's more than 100 years of history between the Downers Grove police station and the Village Hall, but both buildings are soon to get a massive makeover. Village officials recently unveiled plans to combine the police station and village hall in a new building that will be built in 2019.
In an informational video, village officials say the planned facilities project will also work toward "improving the safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Washington Street and the railroad tracks," which is located near the new building's site.
The Downers Grove Village Hall was built 90 years ago and the police station was built 40 years ago, village officials say, and are in desperate need of renovations for safety, efficiency, and modernity. Officials say he current facilities fail to measure up to ADA standards and lack the space to efficiently perform operations.

The proposed facility will also include 10 to 12 townhomes and a medical office building.
According to the facilities plan announcement, the project will not require an increase in property taxes. Roughly 85 percent of the project cost will be funded by money from the land sale and the property taxes that will be paid by the development. The remainder will be covered by existing village revenue.
