Downers Grove Catholic Church donates to shelter for homeless former military personnel

Donation will help support counseling and job search programs, in addition to transitional housing initiatives.

St. Mary of Gostyn Catholic Church Deacon Al Agurkis visited the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV) in Wheaton on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 to deliver a $750 check from the parish. The donation will support that organization’s work with at-risk veterans. The money was collected as a free will donation during the parish’s St. Joseph’s Table event held by the parish’s Knights of Columbus group on March 19. The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans offers transitional housing, support services, employment counseling, and a small store where veterans in-need can obtain furniture, appliances, household products and even suits and other work-related clothing at no charge. Pictured in the photo are Pamela A. Kostecki, Executive Director of MSHV and Deacon Al Agurkis of SMG.
