Downers Grove Fire Department Hosts 'A Night At The Firehouse'

Kids can tour the firehouse and slide down a fire pole at A Night at the Firehouse on October 11.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Little kids who dream of becoming a firefighter can get a behind-the-scenes peek into the job at "A Night At The Firehouse," hosted by the Downers Grove Fire Department. The event will take place Wednesday, October 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Downers Grove fire station 5 at 6701 Main Street.

The event is packed with educational activities for kids and even some things adults can appreciate, including a real fire demonstration to show how important residential sprinklers are. Kids can use the fire station's thermal imaging equipment to see what their own thermal image looks like, in addition to checking out all the other fire equipment and sliding down the fire pole.

Firefighters will be on hand to give demonstrations about fire safety and to answer questions. They'll also model some of the different uniforms they wear on the job. Parents can commemorate the event by having their kids take a photo with one of the fire crew members.
