Downers Grove Firefighters Share 2021 Holiday Fire Safety Tips
Downers Grove Fire Department is reminding residents to "Keep the Wreaths Red" by practicing fire safety this holiday season.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove Fire Department is offering safety tips for residents this holiday season. Each fire station has a wreath with red bulbs that will be changed to white for each holiday-related fire. The goal is to keep the wreaths red.
The fire department recommends the following steps to make sure trees and lights are safe this holiday season:
- Don't allow trees to block exit paths in your home
- Keep live trees at least three feet from any heat source
- Check water levels daily for live trees.
- Dispose of trees and boughs before they dry out.
- Don't connect more than three strings of lights together.
- Make sure lights are approved for indoor or outdoor use, depending on where you plan to use them.
FFPMs at Station 3 were spotted hanging their wreath this morning. Wreaths with red bulbs are displayed at each of the Village's fire stations through January 1, 2022. #KeepTheWreathRed https://t.co/P1s8Yc8mRt pic.twitter.com/17GzqtXO6F
