Downers Grove Grade School District 58 Gets Four New Board Members

Downers Grove voters elected four new board members to Grade School District 58 on Tuesday.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Four new members are taking spots on the Downers Grove School District 58 Board of Education after the election on Tuesday, according to unofficial results from the DuPage County Election Commission. Final votes will be tabulated Tuesday, April 11.

With just one incumbent board member, Christopher Heppner, in the running and four seats up for grabs, the election was sure to bring some changes to District 58. Heppner was defeated with just 10.14% of the vote (1,812 votes), as was District 58 candidate Susan Helsdon, who came out slightly ahead of Heppner with 11.8% of the vote (2,111 votes).

Grade School District 58’s four open seats were won by the following candidates:

  • Beth Taylor, with 21.38% (3,839 votes)
  • Jill V. Samonte, with 20.77% (3,729 votes)
  • Gregory Harris, with 18.12% (3,253 votes)
  • Darren Hughes, with 17.84% (3,203 votes)

It’s been a year of change for Grade School District 58, which recently appointed two new principals and a new assistant superintendent of curriculum.
