Downers Grove health fair to feature expert speakers, family fun

Free wellness event for all ages: kid's activities and speakers on breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, depression, living wills

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Downers Grove in partnership with Advocate Health Faith Community Nursing and Benedictine University is hosting the second annual Real. Balanced. Life. Health Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is a free health and wellness event for all ages. Have FUN while learning to be healthy!

There will be 35+ health exhibits, including the DuPage County Health Department, Good Samaritan Hospital’s Cancer Care and Wellness Centers, Marianjoy Rehabilitative Hospital, Downers Grove Township Senior Services, support groups and health associations.

Have your blood pressure taken and enjoy cooking, exercise and yoga demonstrations, as well as a relaxing mini-chair massage and plenty of free giveaways!

FOR KIDS: Visit with a Downers Grove Fire Department firetruck and the Kid’s Mock ER and bring a favorite injured doll or teddy for stitches, while exploring safe, hands-on activities.

Highlights include five physician speakers from Advocate Health Care, including cardiologist Dr. Stephen Rowley, breast surgeon Dr. Gale England, neurologist Dr. Tim Mikesell, endocrinologist Dr. C.K. Koh and psychiatrist Dr. David Kemp, each speaking on their field of expertise. There also will be presentations on “Respecting Your Choices for Advanced Care Planning” by the Good Samaritan Hospital Office of Mission & Spiritual Care, “Emergency Preparedness” by DuPage County Homeland Security and “How to Protect a Yourself from Internet Fraud” by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General.
