Downers Grove Named ‘Top 10’ Best Places for Kids in 2014

A new study by Livability, a blog that rates the best places in the United States to live, work and visit, ranked Downers Grove among the Top 10 places to raise children.

Downers Grove ranked No. 2 on the list, second only to Bosie, ID. The prestigious designation was announced on Monday.

Livability lauded Downers Grove for its parks and highly rated school system. Over 24 percent of households have children, and the village hosts 140 community events for families.

What really drove Downers Grove home as a great place for kids was the village’s extremely low crime rate.

“[It’s] the village’s safety that really stands out. The most recent comparison showed that Downers Grove’s crime rate is less than a quarter of the national average, the lowest of the cities on this list.”

Livability also praised community leaders for creating a “healthy, family-friendly environment.” The ranking also cited Downers Grove’s public library, myriad youth athletic leagues, downtown area, and recreational amenities.
