Downers Grove North Adds 2 Athletes, Coach To Hall Of Fame

DOWNERS GROVE, IL --- Three former Downers Grove North athletes are set to be inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame. Adrienne Bicek (class of '09), Eric Jagielo (class of '10), and Coach Paul Franson will be inducted on Jan. 12 at 4:15 p.m. during a special ceremony before the boys' varsity basketball game.

Bicek a 2009 graduate, became the first female swimmer at Downers Grove North to win an individual state championship when she won the 200-meter individual medley event in 2008. During her time at Downers North, Bicek also won seven IHSA swimming medals and was named the Illinois High School Swimmer of the Year in 2008. She then went on swim for University of Georgia and University of Michigan after graduating.

Jagielo, who was drafted to the New York Yankees in 2013, holds most of the career hitting records in boy's baseball at Downers Grove North, according to a news release. He made the all-state and all-area baseball teams in 2010 and played in the all-conference and WSC Silver Conference games in 2009 and 2010. During his college career, Jagielo played varsity baseball at Notre Dame University.

Coach Paul Franson will also be inducted into the DGN Hall of Fame Saturday. Franson, who was inducted into the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame in 1999, coached Downers North to baseball championships in 1988, 1995, and 1997. During his 16-year career coaching baseball at DGN, Franson led teams to a total of 320 wins. He also swerved as coach of the Downers Grove North Varsity Football Team, which won an IHSA state championship in 2004.

Downers Grove North's Athletic Director Denise Kavanaugh said in a statement that the school is "very proud to welcome Adrienne, Eric, and Paul into [its] Athletic Hall of Fame.”
